Setup Instructions

1. Create the Project Directory

mkdir microsoft-roadmap-mcp-server
cd microsoft-roadmap-mcp-server

2. Initialize the Project

Create the src directory:

mkdir src

Copy the provided package.json and src/index.js files into their respective locations.

3. Install Dependencies

npm install

4. Test the Server (Optional)

You can test the server locally:

npm start

The server will start and wait for MCP protocol messages on stdin/stdout.

5. Configure Claude Desktop

Edit your Claude Desktop configuration file:

On macOS:

code ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

On Windows:

code %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Add the following configuration:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "microsoft-roadmap": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/absolute/path/to/your/microsoft-roadmap-mcp-server/src/index.js"],
      "env": {}

  }
}

Important: Replace /absolute/path/to/your/microsoft-roadmap-mcp-server/ with the actual absolute path to your project directory.

To get the absolute path:

  • macOS/Linux: Run pwd in your project directory
  • Windows: Run cd in your project directory

6. Restart Claude Desktop

Close and reopen Claude Desktop to load the new MCP server.
