Features
Tools
The server provides the following tools for interacting with Bugzilla:
Bug Information

bug_info(id: int): Retrieves comprehensive details for a specified Bugzilla bug ID.- Returns: A dictionary containing all available information about the bug (status, assignee, summary, description, attachments, etc.)
- Example:
bug_info(12345)returns complete bug details

bug_comments(id: int, include_private_comments: bool = False): Fetches all comments associated with a given bug ID.- Parameters:

Prompts
The server provides the following prompt templates:
summarize_bug_comments(id: int): Generates a detailed summary prompt for all comments of a given bug ID.- Returns: A well-structured prompt that, when used with an LLM, produces a formatted summary of the bug's comments
- Format: Includes usernames (bold italic), dates (bold), and human-readable timestamps
- Example:
summarize_bug_comments(12345)returns a prompt that can be used to generate a comment summary
Requirements
- Python 3.13
- A Bugzilla instance with REST API access
- A Bugzilla user account with an API key

Installation
Docker / Podman
The easiest way to run the server is using Docker or Podman:

Clone the repository:

Install dependencies:

Run the server:

http://127.0.0.1:8000/mcp/.

Command-Line Arguments
The mcp-bugzilla command supports the following options:

Usage
Starting the Server
Start the server with your Bugzilla instance URL:
mcp-bugzilla --bugzilla-server https://bugzilla.opensuse.org
The server will start listening on http://127.0.0.1:8000/mcp/ by default.
Endpoint
The MCP server exposes an HTTP endpoint at:
http://<host>:<port>/mcp/
For example, with default settings:
http://127.0.0.1:8000/mcp/
Authentication
Required: All requests must include a Bugzilla API key in the HTTP headers.

Generate an API Key:
- Log in to your Bugzilla instance
- Navigate to your user preferences
- Go to the "API Keys" section
- Generate a new API key
- Copy the API key

Send the API Key: Include the API key in the HTTP request header. By default, the header name is

API Reference
Tool Response Format
All tools return JSON responses following the MCP protocol. Successful responses include the tool's return value, while errors include detailed error messages.
Error Handling
The server provides detailed error messages for common issues:
- Missing API Key: Returns

Troubleshooting
Server Won't Start
Issue: Server fails to start with "bugzilla-server argument required"
Solution: Ensure you provide the --bugzilla-server argument or set the BUGZILLA_SERVER environment variable:

Authentication Errors
Issue: Receiving ValidationError: ApiKey header is required
Solution:
- Ensure you're sending the API key in the correct HTTP header (default:
ApiKey) - Verify the API key is valid and not expired
- Check that the header name matches your server configuration
API Errors
Issue: Receiving ToolError with HTTP status codes
Common causes:
- 401 Unauthorized: Invalid or expired API key
- 404 Not Found: Bug ID doesn't exist or you don't have permission to view it
- 403 Forbidden: Insufficient permissions for the requested operation
- 500 Internal Server Error: Bugzilla server error
Solution: Check the error message for details and verify your API key permissions.
Connection Issues
Issue: Cannot connect to Bugzilla server
Solution:
- Verify the Bugzilla server URL is correct and accessible
- Check network connectivity
- Ensure the Bugzilla instance has REST API enabled
- Verify firewall rules allow outbound connections
Logging Issues
Issue: Not seeing enough (or too much) log output
Solution: Adjust the LOG_LEVEL environment variable:
