Containerlab MCP Server is a trial implementation for interacting with containerlab using AI, specifically tailored for Claude desktop.

The Containerlab MCP Server is designed to facilitate interaction with containerlab environments through AI, leveraging the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This server acts as a bridge between the containerlab API and AI interfaces, allowing users to manage network topologies and labs using natural language commands. The server supports multiple platforms, including Windows, Mac, and Linux, and requires the containerlab API server to be running. Users can build the server from source using Go, and configure it to work with Claude desktop by setting up a JSON configuration file. Once set up, the server enables operations such as listing labs, deploying topologies, inspecting details, executing commands, and cleaning up labs, all through AI-driven interactions.

Features

  • Cross-platform support for Windows, Mac, and Linux
  • Integration with Claude desktop for AI-driven interactions
  • Ability to list, deploy, and manage network topologies
  • Natural language command execution on lab nodes
  • Automated lab cleanup and resource management
