This is a small MCP server experiment designed to play radio, stop it, and send telegram messages using voice commands.

A short experiment with MCP servers at home

This is a small MCP server that I used to experiment with the concept. It can play a radio based on a list in radios.json, stop the radio, and send a telegram message to me or to my wife.

You will need the ffplay cli (probably available in your packages manager in ffmpeg). You can set another cli music player in your .env file.

I scraped the radios from various sources using claude. I haven't listened to most of them yet.

As a little bonus I used the send.sh script to record my voice, transcribe it locally using whisper, and then use claude to ask my own personal butler to action it. It is pretty limited and very janky but still is better than siri!

How to use

  1. Copy the env file to .env and update it with your config
  2. Run the MCP server
uv run python main.py
  1. Register the MCP server with Claude
claude mcp add home --transport http http://localhost:12345/mcp --scope user
  1. If you want to use the send.sh script you need to allow the use of the tools first in the directory
